Delightful record of a young American woman's stay in Shropshire in 1851-52, as told in letters home. Anna Maria Fay, a member of the distinguished Fay family of Cambridge, Massachusetts, "was welcomed and entertained by the aristocratic families of Shropshire." Her accounts of a dinner party at Oakly Park and a carriage ride to Downton Castle, for example, are lively and entertaining. She also notes the coming of the railway to Ludlow and, in general, provides a fascinating look at Shropshire life in the early 1850s. This edition, printed in honor of the 150th anniversary of Anna Maria's visit, includes additional material about the Fay family and the places visited by Anna Maria. $35.00
